A Note from the Founder’s Desk

I was born and raised in a small village in Assam, where handloom was not just a craft, but a way of life. Growing up, I was surrounded by the beauty of handwoven textiles and the warmth of traditions passed down through generations. Some of my earliest memories are of watching my mother weave her own clothes, from everyday wear to elegant outfits for special occasions. Despite being a working woman, she never gave up her passion for weaving and continued to fulfill her creative dreams through her loom. That is where my love for handloom truly began.

My entire extended family was deeply connected with Eri Silk. From rearing Eri silkworms at home to spinning yarn and weaving fabrics on traditional looms, it was all a part of our everyday life. My grandmother and my family members were especially skilled in working with Eri Silk, and as a child, I was fascinated by the process and craftsmanship behind every piece created by hand.

Although I spent more than half of my life in towns and cities and later moved to Bangalore for work, my heart always remained connected to my roots. After spending nearly 15 years in the corporate world, I continued to carry a dream within me, to do something meaningful in the handloom sector and bring pure, authentic handwoven products to people who truly value craftsmanship and heritage.

Over the years, I have witnessed the gradual decline of the handloom industry. Today, mass-produced machine-made products are often sold in the name of handloom, making it increasingly difficult for genuine weavers to survive. This made me deeply concerned about the future of the handloom industry, and inspired me to work closely with artisans and weaving communities who continue to preserve these age-old traditions with dedication and honesty.

Elegance by Preeti was born from this passion for handloom textiles and a desire to create a meaningful impact. What started as a small initiative has today grown into a globally trusted name in sustainable fashion and ethical textile exports. Our focus has always been on quality over quantity, authenticity over imitation, and sustainability over fast fashion.
